Perang Dectar: The Vibrant Tradition at UKM
PERANG DECTAR
I can’t believe how excited i was during my first week at UKM! I kept telling my friend that i couldn’t wait for Perang Dectar, something i had been looking forward to since i got my offer to study here. For those who don't know what is Perang Dectar- Perang Dectar is a lively and creative competition held at UKM during orientation week. It typically involves 12 college including the ones from the Kuala Lumpur campus, where we will compete in cheers between the colleges. It's such a fun way to bond with everyone and show off our college pride! FYI, i wanna say that i am proud to be part of Bangsa Keris🐯! Kolej Keris Mas is the second biggest college in UKM,meaning that we are among one of the college with a large crowd and a lot of energy.
Our schedule during orientation week was pretty packed, so we only had time to practice after the official events wrapped up, usually around 10:30 or 11 PM. After that, all of us from Bangsa Keris would meet up in the college hall to practice. Those late-night sessions were filled with laughter, creativity, and a ton of enthusiasm as we worked to make our cheers the best they could be and beat every college especially our rival KPZ. hehe
The day i’d been waiting for was finally here! The Perang started after the official event of the orientation ended, and we were all super hyped. We’d been looking forward to this moment since the start! Everyone in Bangsa Keris was ready to “Berperang” with the other colleges, and the excitement was buzzing all around. You could just feel the energy before the Perang even started!. That was the situation looked like before the Perang started.
We started off with a chant that brought all the colleges together, hyping each other up. The chant lasted about 30-40 minutes until something unexpected happened. We were suddenly directed to head back to our college . It was not even midnight yet and we haven't actually started the Perang yet. We were completely clueless because we hadn’t received any notice about this sudden change. It turned out they had issued an official statement saying that everyone had to be back at their college by midnight because the last bus would leave then. We were really frustratrated as we were so eager for the Perang. But it doesn't stop there, eventhough the Perang Dectar ended at DECTAR,we decided to keep the spirit alive back at our college. It wasn’t quite the same as being at DECTAR, but we still had a good time. However,it doesn't changed the fact that i am disappointed on how the night came out to be.
We continue the Perang at our college, and honestly, the vibe we shared was something special—nothing like what you’d find elsewhere. I can’t quite explain it, but i felt this amazing bond among all of us; it was like we were one big family. I’m so proud to be part of the Keris Mas family, and i can’t wait to contribute even more in the future!
I’m sharing one of our cheers from Kolej Keris Mas—enjoy! Can’t wait to see you all in my next post!💓💓
